July:
A very quiet month for migrants but the highlight was a totally unexpected
Arctic Redpoll
trapped in the Vaadal on the 19th.
The
Lesser Grey Shrike
remained resident at Barkland throughout the month. The
Marsh Warbler
stayed until the 17th
and
Reed Warbler
until 10th.
An
Iceland Gull
in the South (1st)
and singing
Quail
at Schoolton was last heard on the 2nd.
A few scarce migrants included
Lesser Redpoll
(9th),
Black Redstart
(15th),
Turtle Dove
(18th-27th)
and a
Sandwich Tern
past Buness (20th). The
first returning waders on the 16th
included
Sanderling,
Bar-tailed
Godwit,
Purple
Sandpiper and the 1st
Ruff
of the year on the 24th
had increased to three on the 31st.
Also present was a
Greenshank (24th-31st),
two
Green Sandpipers, eight
Golden Plovers
(25th)
and upto 43
Turnstones (30th).
