2007 - JULY SIGHTINGS

July: A very quiet month for migrants but the highlight was a totally unexpected Arctic Redpoll trapped in the Vaadal on the 19^th. The Lesser Grey Shrike remained resident at Barkland throughout the month. The Marsh Warbler stayed until the 17^th and Reed Warbler until 10^th. An Iceland Gull in the South (1^st) and singing Quail at Schoolton was last heard on the 2^nd. A few scarce migrants included Lesser Redpoll (9^th), Black Redstart (15^th), Turtle Dove (18^th-27^th) and a Sandwich Tern past Buness (20^th). The first returning waders on the 16^th included Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit, Purple Sandpiper and the 1^st Ruff of the year on the 24^th had increased to three on the 31^st. Also present was a Greenshank (24^th-31^st), two Green Sandpipers, eight Golden Plovers (25^th) and upto 43 Turnstones (30^th).
