How You Can Help

Friends of Fair Isle
Keep up to date with the Observatory’s latest news, and receive the annual report, all whilst helping Fair Isle Bird Observatory! Follow the link to the Friends of Fair Isle page.

Volunteer
Every year Fair Isle welcomes volunteers from all over the world. They come to help out with all aspects of Observatory and island life. There are 4 ways to volunteer.

John Harrison Memorial Fund Volunteers For 16-24 year olds. Volunteers are involved with all aspects of Observatory work, and gain valuable experience in Observatory and island life. Many JHMF volunteers have returned as employees in subsequent years. For more information follow the link to the JHMF page.

Fair Isle Bird Observatory Volunteers – FIBO welcomes any application for volunteering, whether it is for ornithological or domestic work. Volunteers do not have to be bird experts and those with specialist skills should say so in their application. Volunteers have to pay £10 a day for living costs, which includes all domestic bills and full board accommodation. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the Warden.

IVS Volunteers – Volunteers will help with community activities such as shearing sheep and other aspects of croft work. See the website:
http://www.ivs-gb.org.uk/current_projects.htm

Thistle Camp Volunteers – Like IVS volunteers, Thistle Camp Volunteers will help with community activities such as shearing sheep and other aspects of croft work. See the website.

Visit us!
Since its creation in 1948, Fair Isle Bird Observatory has relied on visitors to keep the ornithological studies going. Being a self sustaining charity means that the Observatory would not be able to operate without the revenue generated by visitors. So if you really want to help the Observatory and see what all the fuss is about, pay us a visit!
